For artists W.A.D is a chance to try new things in an environment that accepts that we are more than any one show, we are a community of seeking, taking risks, of playing and exploring stories. W.A.D. is a chance to try something, meet somebody, and experience anew what it means to dare at the work collaborative storytelling unbeholden to financial motivations.
For audiences W.A.D. offers a raw take on the artists process. Between a beginning and a finish, we release 'lightly-staged' readings that meet each group of artists at their particular energy-level and bandwidth. Adding in whatever blocking, tech, costume and props each play is ready for, we meet live arts in the middle of a process that we begin each time with a living team of a local writer, cast of actors and director which goes as far as they can make it over the course of one, two, three or more rehearsals.
Mixing in a little bit of lights, sound design and staging over the course of an evening, it's easy to forget that we operate on a shoestring of rehearsal and no pay. The magic is in bringing curious and talented Writers, Actors and Directors together to bravely explore strange, new stories in whatever time-off they can share. The result is a sweaty, raw mess of creativity known as W.A.D. Come check it out!

First Up:The second in our Writer's Salon series, we wish to create an opportunity for a casual meetup to read plays in any level of completion. It's first come first served for plays to be read, feel free to contact us ahead of time. We also encourage new actors and directors to join us to offer their talents as cold readers and meet other members of the community. We had a blast in Ridgewood last time and now we'll move to Bushwick to meet up, chit-chat, talk about stories and make plans for the next iteration of plays. We hope you'll stop by and be part of the conversation.
